Smoking is the most preventable
cause of death in our society. Nearly 1 in 5 deaths in the
U.S. results from the use of tobacco. There are 163,510 deaths a year,
and there are 172,570 NEW cases a year. Smoking is directly responsible
for about 83% of lung cancers and is associated with cancers of the
mouth, larynx, esophagus, pancreas, cervix, kidney, colon, and
bladder. Smoking accounts for AT LEAST
30% of ALL cancer deaths, and is associated with conditions ranging
from colds and allergies to asthma, chronic bronchitis, emphysema,
and heart disease. If you smoke to ease back pain,
you are in fact only making the pain worse. Many doctors will not
treat or operate on patients who smoke. The body, for any surgery,
does not heal well for smokers.
For Women...Female
Infertility and Early Menopause—Smoking causes a serious
disruption to a woman's hormones, as well as blood flow to her
reproductive organs. This can lead to a decreased production of
fertile eggs and an early cessation of making them. The result is
early menopause, which can trigger other health problems such as
vaginal dryness, night sweats, hot flashes, and the increased risk
of osteoporosis. For Men...Male Sexual Problems—Nearly two-thirds
of impotent men smoke, almost twice the rate of the general
population. Decreased circulation to the penis is caused by the
same problems, causing decreased circulation to other parts of the
body such as constriction of blood vessels, the build-up of plaque,
and stickiness of the blood. The number of men having poor
circulation to their penis is 300% higher in smokers than in
nonsmokers. Smoking
Myths Myth
1: It's just a matter of willpower.
Wrong. The nicotine in cigarettes is addictive,
and it isn't easy to break that addiction. But, it can be done, and
the low level laser is painless and has a high degree of
success. Myth 2: Smoking low-tar cigarettes are healthier.
Not so. So-called "low-tar" cigarettes only seem
that way in machine tests. People don't smoke like machines. They
smoke low-tar cigarettes differently than high-tar cigarettes,
inhaling more deeply and smoking more of them. Fact—these low-tar
cigarettes are no safer than "regular" cigarettes. |
